The US Department of Defense has approved the sale of 18 former US Air Force Lockheed Martin F-16A/B Block 15 fighter aircraft and associated materiel following a request from the Thai government earlier this year to supplement its existing fleet of 36 F-16A/Baircraft (Jane's Defence Weekly 17 March).
The request was dealt with under the US Foreign Military Sales programme and will still require approval from Congress. The approval includes two spare Pratt and Whitney F-100-PW-220 engines as well as 10 F-16 Block 10 operational conversion units for training.
