The Australian Army’s fleet of Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopters (ARH) has resumed regular training activities after a temporary suspension was lifted on 2 August 2012.
The suspension, which began on 26 June 2012, was put in place as a safety measure when fumes were detected in the cockpit of an aircraft that performed a precautionary landing at Shoalwater Bay
Following a detailed investigation and assessment into the source of the fumes, the Army Operational Airworthiness Authority lifted the suspension on the recommendation to resume flying operations from the Technical Airworthiness Authority.
The assessment determined that a faulty capacitor in the power supply module was the cause of the fumes. The Tiger fleet has been examined and the faulty power supply modules will be returned to the manufacturer for modification.
