Air Force Gains credibility with South Korea Light Attack Jets

BASA AIR BASE, Floridablanca, Pampanga— Not too long ago, the Philippines Air Force was frequently ribbed as being all air with no force, but PAF chief Lt. Gen. Lauro Catalino de la Cruz hopes the snickering will soon stop with the looming acquisition of 12 TA-50 light attack jets from South Korea.

“There’s an ongoing top-level discussion at the Department of National Defense for the acquisition of the much needed air assets,” De la Cruz said during the 51st anniversary of PAF Air Defense Wing stationed at this air base.

The defense department announced the selection of the South Korean jets last Aug. 1 and officials expect the signing of the purchase contract within the next few months.

De la Cruz said top defense officials want to request the immediate delivery of two TA-50 jets so that PAF pilots can begin training and be ready for the delivery of entire order of 24 jets by 2016.

“This is a realization of the dream we have dreamt a long, long time ago,” De la Cruz said. “That is why many of our personnel will be sent to schooling abroad for air traffic control and related courses.”

Aside from the jets, De la Cruz said the PAF will also construct three radar stations at Lubang Island, Palawan and Zamboanga next year, boosting the air force’s ability to monitor all aircraft entering Philippine territory.

“We will make sure that the proposed facilities and aircraft are tailored-fit to our requirement,” De la Cruz said, noting that even the choice of the South Korean jet was based on the advantages it offered to the military in consideration of the situation in the West Philippine Sea.

The TA-50 is the light attack version of the T-50 Golden Eagle, South Korea’s first indigenous supersonic aircraft and one of the world’s few supersonic trainers, built by Korea Aerospace Industries and Lockheed Martin of the United States.

The jet’s design is largely derived from the F-16 Fighting Falcon, and they have many similarities: use of a single engine, speed, size, cost, and the range of weapons.

The TA-50 mounts a M197 20mm three-barrel cannon and a fire control radar system. It can accommodate the AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missile and a variety of additional weapons can be mounted to underwing hardpoints.

Compatible air-to-surface weapons include the AGM-65 Maverick air-to-ground missile, Hydra 70 rocket launchers, CBU-58 and Mk-20 cluster bombs, and Mk-82, ?83, and ?84 general purpose bombs.

DPR Dukung TNI Akuisisi 2 Skuadron Super Tucano Dan T-50 Korsel

JAKARTA-(IDB) : Komisi I menyambut baik atas tibanya empat unit pesawat tempur taktis Super Tucano EMB-314 buatan pabrikan Embraer dari Brasil.

"Empat pesawat latih Super Tucano itu merupakan bagian 16 pesawat Super Tucano yang dipesan TNI AU untuk kepentingan pengkaderan bagi pilot tempur. Keseluruhan pesawat latih yang dipesan itu diharapkan pada 2013 secara keseluruhan mesti tiba di Tanah Air," ujar Mahfudz Siddiq di Kompleks Parlemen, Senayan, Jakarta, Senin (3/9).

Menurut Mahfudz, DPR berharap kehadiran dua skuadron pesawat latih itu nantinya semakin mewujudkan modernisasi alutsista TNI, mendekati postur alutsista minimum. "Termasuk kehadiran pesawat latih tersebut sebagai upaya modernisasi bagi kapal latih tempur," ujarnya.

Mahfudz mengatakan, selain mendukung pengadaan dua skuadron pesawat latih Super Tucano, Komisi I juga telah memberikan dukungan bagi pembelian dua skuadron pesawat latih seri T-50 dari Korea Selatan.

"Diharapkan pesawat latih T-50 dari Korsel itu mulai 2013 juga mulai tiba di Tanah Air. Sehingga hal itu akan semakin memperkokoh skuadron satuan pesawat latih bagi TNI untuk mencetak pilot tempur di masa datang lebih banyak lagi, yang terampil dalam menguasai teknologi pesawat tempur yang canggih di era saat ini dan ke depannya," ujarnya.

Mahfudz mengatakan, dipilihnya pembelian pesawat latih T-50 dari Korsel itu, sebagai bagian dari upaya produksi pesawat tempur bersama bagi kedua negara, yaitu KFX. "Penggunaan pesawat latih T-50 menggunakan sistem dan teknologi yang telah mendekati dari teknologi yang digunakan pesawat tempur KFX, generasi lebih muda dari pesawat jenis F-16 dari AS," tegasnya.

Seperti diketahui, empat unit pesawat tempur taktis Super Tucano EMB-314 tiba di Bandara Abdul Rachman Saleh, Malang, Jawa Timur, Minggu (2/9) siang. Pada 17 September 2012, keempat pesawat itu akan diserahkan secara resmi ke negara atau ke pihak TNI AU.

PT. DI Tuntaskan Tiga Pesawat Korea KT-1B Pesanan TNI AU

BANDUNG-(IDB) : PT Dirgantara Indonesia berhasil menuntaskan pemesanan Korea untuk merakit tiga pesawat KT-1B. Proses pengerjaan pesawat ini memakan waktu lebih dari empat bulan.

"Pengerjaan perakitan pesawat KT-1B ini dimulai sejak April dan hari ini (Rabu) akan kami serahkan kepada Korea," ujar Manager Bisnis Integrasi Direktorat Aircraft PT DI Simet Kadan kepada wartawan usai acara Indonesia-Japan Join Airbone Campaign Pisar-L2 di kawasan PT DI, Jalan Padjajaran, Kota Bandung, Rabu (8/8).

Dia menjelaskan pesawat ini memiliki akselerasi yang sangat baik sehingga tergolong pesawat aerobatik ataupun trainning. Pesawat ini bisa bergerak gesit karena didukung baling-baling turbo dibagian mocong pesawat.

"Ukurannya lebih besar dari maseraty dan mesinnya pun bandel," ucapnya.

Lebih lanjut dia menuturkan pada proyek perakitan pesawat ini, PT DI hanya berperan sebagai subkontraktor. Pasalnya, proyek kerjasama berlangsung antara Korea Selatan dengan TNI Angkatan Udara.

"Kita hanya subkontraktornya saja. Perjanjiannya sih antara Korea dengan TNI AU," jelasnya.

Setelah perakitan tiga pesawat ini, katanya, PT akan merakit dua pesawat lagi karena total ordernya mencapai lima pesawat. Korea Selatan menaruh kepercayaan kepada PT DI karena kerjasama serupa pernah berlangsung pada tahun 1998.

"Pada 1998 kami juga mendapat order dengan volume yang sama. Bahkan, PT DI juga telah diminta mengimprove pesawat yang lama dengan teknologi Automatic Radar Treat System (ARTS) di Bandara Adisucipto Yogyakarta. Ada sekitar 11 orang yang mengerjakannya proyek tersebut," pungkasnya.

PTDI Rampungkan Perakitan Tiga Pesawat Korea KT-1B

ANTARAJAWABARAT.com - PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) telah merampungkan pesanan perakitan tiga pesawat KT-1B buatan Korea untuk selanjutnya akan diserahkan kepada TNI AU.

"Tiga pesawat sudah selesai dirakit sejak April 2012 lalu, Rabu ini ada dua pesawat yang akan diterbangkan ke Lanud Adisucipto Yogyakarta untuk selanjutnya diserahkan pihak Korea kepada TNI AU," kata Manager Bisnis Integrasi Binis Directorat Aircraft PTDI Slamet Kadan di sela-sela peresmian Indonesia - Japan Joint Airborne Cambaign Piser-L2 di Hanggar PTDI Bandung, Rabu.

Menurut Slamet, tiga pesawat yang baru selesai dirakit itu merupakan tiga dari 15 pesawat yang dipesan TNI-AU dari Korea. Pesawat propeler bermesin turbo itu akan menjadi pesawat akrobatik dan pesawat latih TNI AU yang berpangkalan di Lanud Adi Sucipto Yogyakarta.

Penyelesaian perakitan pesawat berwarna merah-merah itu bukan kali ini saja dilakukan PTDI, pada 2008 perusahaan dirgantara nasional itu juga merangkai lima pesawat sejenis yang saat ini memperkuat jajaran TNI-AU.

"Akhir Agustus 2012 ini rencanaya ada dua pesawat lagi yang akan dirakit di sini (PTDI)," katanya.

Pesawat KT-1B merupakan pesawat kecil dengan baling-baling bermesin turbo. Pesawat itu lebih besar dari pesawat Maserati. Menurut Slamet pesawat itu cukup lincah dan bisa bermanuver dalam banyak formasi.

Perakitan pesawat itu sendiri dilakukan bersama teknisi dari perusahaan pembuatan KT-1B.

"Perjanjian kontraknya sih antara Korea dengan TNI-AU, PTDI hanya mendapat order asembling dan perakitannya saja, seluruh komponen dikirim dari Korea," kata Slamet.

Sementara itu Assisten Dirut PTDI Bidang Manajemen Mutu Sonny Saleh Ibrahim menyebutkan perakitan pesawat KT-1B itu hanya sebatas menerima pesanan asembling aja.

"PTDI tidak membuat pesawat KT-1B karena pasarnya sulit. PTDI konsentrasi pada CN-235 MPA dan N-395," kata Sonny Saleh Ibrahim menambahkan.

ST Aerospace & Alenia Aermacchi Roll Out First M-346 for the RSAF

Venegono Superiore (Varese), Italy – The first M-346 advanced trainer for the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) was rolled out in a ceremony held at Alenia Aermacchi’s plant in Venegono Superiore, Italy.

In September 2010, ST Aerospace, as the prime contractor, teaming with Alenia Aermacchi (a Finmeccanica company) and The Boeing Company, was awarded a contract to supply 12 M-346 aircraft and ground based training system for the RSAF’s Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) programme.

The roll-out ceremony was attended by officials from the RSAF, key representatives from ST Aerospace, The Boeing Company and Alenia Aermacchi, as well as staff representatives involved in the programme.

“We signed the contract less than two years ago and today we have rolled out the first of twelve M-346 aircraft for the RSAF’s Advanced Jet Trainer programme. This is a particularly important moment for our company, a great team job has been achieved in strict collaboration with our industrial counterpart, ST Aerospace, and we are proud to celebrate together with them”. Said Giuseppe GIORDO, Alenia Aermacchi’s CEO.

“The successful rollout of the first M-346 illustrates the firm commitment by ST Aerospace and Alenia Aermacchi, in support of the RSAF’s next generation training needs. The rollout follows the obtaining of the type certificate and the first flight made by this aircraft in July 2012. The delivery of the first M-346 is scheduled for the end of 2012.

DND Officially Recommends T-50

Purchase of Korean Jets Recommended

The Department of National Defense (DND) has recommended to President Aquino the purchase of South Korean-made jet fighters to boost the country’s external defense capability.

Fernando Manalo, DND undersecretary for finance, munitions, installations and materiel, said the assessment conducted revealed that it is South Korea’s T50s which is ideal for the country’s Philippine Air Force.

“Based on our assessment it is the T50 of South Korea that is most advantageous to us in consideration to the obtaining situation in the West Philippine Sea,” said Manalo.

Aside from capability, the T50s are also ideal in terms of the country’s limited budget for Air Force modernization, he said.

If the contract is signed with South Korea before the end of 2012, Manalo said the fighter jets could be delivered to the country within two years from 2013.

What would happen if the contract is signed, according to Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, is that they would request for immediate delivery of two of the T50s to facilitate the training of Air Force pilots.

“We will negotiate so we can get the two immediately for training so that when the rest of the 10 arrives, our pilots are already trained,” said Gazmin.

Manalo stressed the need to sign into law the P75-billion modernization budget for military modernization.

“Without the law, we cannot implement the acquisition of these fighters . . . because there is no budget,” said Manalo.

The Philippinesis now focusing on its external defense after it became locked in a standoff with Chinaa few months ago near the Scarborough Shoal.

The two Philippine civilian ships have already pulled out several weeks ago to deescalate the tension but Chinese ships remain in the area and even set structure to block other ships from entering the Shoal.

TUDM Harapkan Penggantian Pesawat Latih PC-7 dan Helikopter Latih Alouette

TUDM terima helikopter baru

Butterworth - Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia (TUDM) akan menerima dua helikopter Eurocopter Cougar jenis EC725 pada Disember ini atau selewat-lewatnya Januari tahun depan.

Panglima TUDM, Jeneral Tan Sri Rodzali Daud, berkata penghantaran Cougar EC725 yang dibangunkan khusus bagi misi mencabar seperti tugas taktikal mencari dan menyelamat untuk menggantikan Sikorsky S61-A4 Sea Kings atau Nuri akan dilaksanakan mengikut jadual.

Baki 10 helikopter dijangka diserahkan secara berperingkat dengan pesawat terakhir bakal sampai pada Januari 2014.

“Selain itu, pesawat pengangkut jenis Atlas Airbus A400 yang dibeli kira-kira RM600 juta akan tiba menjelang Januari 2015 seperti yang dijadualkan,” katanya selepas menganugerahkan Sayap dan Sijil Penerbangan di Pangkalan Udara TUDM Butterworth, di sini, semalam.

Beliau berkata, juruterbang TUDM kini berada di Perancis untuk mengikuti latihan sebelum penghantaran pertama dua daripada 12 helikopter itu.

Katanya mereka sudah tiba di kilang Eurocopter di Marseille, dua hari lalu untuk mengikuti kursus latihan mengendali dan mengetahui ciri pesawat itu supaya dapat digunakan secepat mungkin.

Sementara itu, Rodzali berkata, TUDM berharap kerajaan meluluskan peruntukan menggantikan pesawat Pilatus PC-7 yang diminta ketika Rancangan Malaysia Ke-10 (RMK-10) selain menggantikan helikopter latihan Alloute yang memasuki usia 50 tahun perkhidmatannya dengan TUDM tahun depan.

Penggantian Pilatus PC-7 dan armada Alloute itu memastikan juruterbang muda dapat meneroka kemajuan teknologi pesawat moden di seluruh dunia.

Australia to Upgrade Hawk Trainers to RAF's T2 Standard

Australia's BAE Systems Hawk 127 lead-in fighter trainers are to be upgraded to a configuration based on the new-generation T2 model flown by the UK Royal Air Force, defence minister Stephen Smith has confirmed.

Providing details of an initial A$25 million ($25.8 million) contract with BAE, Smith says the award "signals the commencement of upgrade activities on the Royal Australian Air Force's fast jet training capability".

Flightglobal's MiliCAS database records the service as having 33 of the aircraft, which were delivered between 1999 and 2001 and are flown from RAAF Base Williamtown, New South Wales and RAAF Base Pearce in Western Australia.

Speaking at the Farnborough air show on 10 July, BAE's director of Hawk aircraft programmes Michael Christie said the mid-life upgrade will take Australia's trainers to largely the same OC2 software standard as the 28 T2s flown by the RAF and the 22 Hawk 165s recently ordered by Saudi Arabia.

The company hopes India's inventory of the type could also be equipped with the same mission computers and software as part of a future modification programme, he added.

Upgrading the Hawk 127 fleet will "ensure a suitable foundation for progression on to the [Boeing] F/A-18 Classic and Super Hornets and the [Lockheed Martin F-35] Joint Strike Fighter," says minister for defence materiel Jason Clare.

"Australian industry will be responsible for construction of simulator facilities, modification of the Hawk fleet, and in-service support of equipment," states the nation's Department of Defence.

Grob Aircraft's 'Fab 4' to Climb Charts with G120TP

Grob Aircraft (H4/D5) co-chief executive and chief sales officer André Hiebeler evoked the spirit of The Beatles while launching a new marketing drive for the company's G120TP trainer at the Farnborough air show.

Describing his company and programme partners Esterline CMC Electronics, Martin-Baker and Rolls-Royce as "the fab four", Hiebeler says the turboprop-powered design is the perfect "ticket to ride" for the next generation of military pilots.

The G120TP programme is moving fast, with the first production example for Indonesia having recently been rolled out at Grob Aircraft's Tussenhausen-Mattsies site near Munich, Germanyunder an 18-aircraft deal. Rolls-Royce says it has delivered its first two production M250-B17F turboprop engines under the programme, with 12 more to follow by the end of this year.

"We've done ground vibration testing, and expect first flight next week," says Hiebeler. "The first six aircraft are to be delivered in November and December - ahead of schedule." The remainder will be handed over by the third quarter of 2013, he adds.

Grob Aircraft had intended to announce two new deals for the G120TP before or during the show, but last-minute issues have delayed both from being concluded. "It's a learning curve," Hiebeler says of doing business in one of the expected customer nations, citing unanticipated "tax and customs issues". However, he believes "we can work it out", with both deals likely to be concluded within the next one or two months.

In all, the German manufacturer has commenced promotional campaigns with the two-seat G120TP in 23 countries, with Hiebeler anticipating further contracts to be signed within the next year to 15 months. Potential customers are being offered a standard aircraft design with a range of equipment options, including Martin-Baker's new lightweight Mk17 ejection seat - unveiled at the show - and the Esterline CMC Electronics Cockpit 4000 suite of avionics.

Noting that the G120TP's versatility will enable air forces to cover a broad range of training requirements with the type, Hiebeler concludes: "Wherever you're going, start with us."

Fast Jet Training Contract Announced

Minister for Defence Stephen Smith and Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare announced the signing of a multi-million dollar contract to commence operations for the upgrade of the Hawk Lead-In-Fighter.

“The $25 million contract with BAE Systems in the United Kingdom (UK) signals the commencement of upgrade activities on the Royal Australian Air Force’s (RAAF) fast jet training capability, otherwise known as the Hawk,” Mr Smith said.

“BAE Systems UK is the manufacturer of the original Hawk aircraft and developed a later version of the aircraft for the UK Ministry of Defence, on which the upgrade is to be based.”

Both BAE Systems UK and Australia have been working closely with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to define the scope of the upgrade, leveraging off previous Hawk development programs.

Australian industry will play a facilitation role in the early stages of the upgrade, ensuring compatibility with the current Lead-In Fighter training capability and will be responsible for construction of simulator facilities, modification of the Hawk Fleet, and in-service support of equipment.

Mr Clare said upgrading the countries fast jet training system would ensure its effectiveness into the next decade and ensure a suitable foundation for progression onto the F/A-18 Classic and Super Hornets and the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) as it is introduced into service.

The Hawk is the training aircraft for the ADF’s fast jet pilots before they move on to the Classic Hornet or Super Hornet and the future Joint Strike Fighter (JSF).

The Hawk plays an important role in training Australian fighter pilots. It can carry a wide range of munitions similar to those carried by the Hornet aircraft. The aircraft has a secondary role of providing training support to Navy, Army and Air Force operational capabilities.

Air Force to Acquire 12 Jet Fighters from Korea

– The Philippine Air Force (PAF) said they will be acquiring fighter jets in the next two years.

Twelve surface attack aircraft lead-in fighters or TA-50s from South Koreaare expected to be delivered by 2013.

Each jet costs P1.25 billion for a total of P25 billion for the dozen jets.

The TA-50 is a supersonic aircraft that requires more experienced pilots.

Authorities said bulk of the P70 billion allocated for the modernization of the Armed Forces under the Aquino administration will go to the Air Force.

“Dati hindi natin pinapansin ang territorial defense dahil wala nga tayong capability gayangayon. ‘Yung bangka ‘yung atin, ‘yung kalaban natin napakalaking platform. Ngayon, tumaas ang rating ng problema natin sa territorial defense. Hindi pala natin pwedeng isantabi,” said Defense Sec. Voltaire Gazmin.

The Air Force currently has two trainer jets, which are now nearly 25 years old.

The S-211s were originally meant for training purposes but the military was forced to use them in actual operations.

The PAF admits that this is the current image of the air power of the Philippines, which has been left behind by its neighbors.

The country's lone fighter jet, an F-5, was sidelined in 2005 and has yet to be replaced.

“At that time, the leadership decided that we didn’t need this because there's no threat in that area kaya nag-concentrate tayo sa mga ginagamit nating aircraft para sa internal security operations,” said Col. Miguel Ernesto Okol, spokesman of the PAF.

But the current tensions at the Scarborough Shoal have placed a spotlight on the country's air inferiority.

Last week, a suspected Chinese fighter jet flew over the disputed shoal.

Pemeriksaan rapi ke atas pesawat cukup diberi penelitian bagi mengelakkan sebarang masalah teknikal.

USAHA melahirkan juruterbang berkualiti termasuk tahan lasak dari segi fizikal dan mental, berketrampilan serta bersemangat juang tinggi bukan mudah apatah lagi dalam persekitaran yang mencabar pada hari ini.

Tidak dinafikan ramai lebih cenderung menerbangkan pesawat komersial yang menjanjikan pendapatan lebih lumayan berbanding menyarung uniform Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia (TUDM) untuk berada di barisan hadapan mempertahankan negara.

Usaha melahirkan juruterbang berkaliber untuk mengawasi ruang udara Malaysia telah lama digalas Kolej Tentera Udara (KTU) sejak awal penubuhannya pada 1963.

Sehingga kini, KTU masih diberikan peranan untuk melatih dan melahirkan juruterbang yang mencukupi bagi memenuhi keperluan operasi mengikut kehendak TUDM.

Dalam usaha menjayakan misi itu, KTU di Kepala Batas yang terletak kira-kira 12 kilometer dari Alor Setar dengan berkeluasan 65 hektar persegi menempatkan semua unit latihan di satu tempat yang sesuai dengan suasana latihan dan mempunyai kelengkapan serta kemudahan mencukupi.

Secara amnya, KTU adalah institusi latihan untuk melatih pegawai tentera hasil kerjasama dengan Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) bagi graduan berkelulusan diploma.

Namun tahun ini sangat bersejarah apabila graduan di peringkat ijazah yang berkelayakan dari Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) di Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur akan ditawarkan untuk menjalani latihan di KTU.

Program berkembar dengan universiti tempatan itu sejajar dengan usaha TUDM untuk memantapkan profesionalisme juruterbang dengan melahirkan juruterbang yang berkemahiran.

Apatah lagi dengan tahap profesionalisme bidang ketenteraan yang meningkat dan mementingkan pencapaian akademik, adalah penting untuk memastikan pasukan tentera hebat dalam bidang taktikal serta strategi ketenteraan.

Di KTU, TUDM menggariskan misi utamanya untuk mengeluarkan pegawai dan krew udara yang dipupuk dengan sikap yang positif, dibekalkan dengan ilmu pengetahuan dan kemahiran asas bagi melaksanakan tugas serta tanggungjawab melalui penggunaan modul atau pelaksanaan kurikulum yang bersesuaian.

Sejak awal kelahirannya, KTU mengalami beberapa perubahan termasuk konsep pemusatan beberapa unit latihan seperti Pusat Latihan Pegawai (PLP), Pusat Latihan Terbang 1 (Pulatibang 1) dan Pusat Latihan Terbang 2 (Pulatibang 2) di lokasi sama sejajar dengan matlamat TUDM menjadikan KTU sebaga pusat pengajian aeroangkasa.

Setiap pelatih yang juga merupakan pegawai kadet perlu menjalani latihan selama tiga tahun di KTU bagi melayakkan mereka menerima sayap penerbangan bagi latihan Kursus Asas Penerbangan di Pulatibang 1 dan Helikopter di Pulatibang 2.

Dalam tempoh tersebut, bagi menyesuaikan diri dengan kehidupan ketenteraan para pelatih terlebih dahulu menjalani latihan ketenteraan mengikut jadual ditetapkan.

Dalam fasa itu, mereka dilatih membina ketahanan mental dan didedahkan kepada pengetahuan asas ketenteraan sebagai persediaan sebelum menjalani latihan penerbangan di KTU.

Menurut Pegawai Pemerintah Pulatibang 1, Leftenan Kolonel Ghazali Yayah, KTU tidak akan berkompromi dengan kualiti dalam usaha melahirkan juruterbang yang berkaliber.

"Kita berharap dapat melahirkan juruterbang angkatan tentera yang mantap dan tinggi semangat juang di mana apabila mereka menggalas tugas di barisan hadapan pertahanan negara ia dilakukan dengan penuh patriotik dan tanpa rasa gentar.

"Oleh demikian selain penerapan ilmu penerbangan, kemahiran dalam mengoptimumkan pengunaan aset latihan dalam penerbangan, pelatih juga dididik dengan jati diri yang tinggi," katanya.

Katanya, pelatih yang diterima masuk ke KTU terlebih dahulu akan menerima latihan di PLP sebelum diserapkan untuk menjalani latihan penerbangan di Pulatibang 1 dan Pulatibang 2 selama 18 bulan.

Tambah beliau, visi Pulatibang 1 di KTU antaranya untuk menjadi pusat latihan penerbangan terunggul di rantau Asia apabila mampu melahirkan juruterbang berkaliber sehingga mencapai tahap profesionalisme tinggi.

"Modul pembelajaran dan kokurikulum di Pulatibang 1 antaranya memerlukan setiap pelatih menguasai bidang akademik dan ketenteraan kerana mereka bakal menerbangkan sebuah pesawat pejuang untuk mempertahankan negara.

"Hanya pelatih yang kental dan mantap ilmunya akan melepasi fasa itu seterusnya menerima sayap penerbangan masing-masing," jelasnya.

Selain latihan ketenteraan dan pembelajaran di kelas dalam usaha memahami selok belok mengendalikan pesawat, Ghazali berkata, pelatih juga perlu mengambil kursus lanjutan membabitkan praktikal menerbangkan pesawat menggunakan Pilatus PC-7.

"Jumlah jam penerbangan yang ditetapkan adalah sekurang-kurangnya 160 jam secara solo atau bersama jurulatih.

"Penggunaan aset-aset latihan di Pulatibang penting dalam melahirkan juruterbang yang berkualiti," ujarnya.

Pada ketika ini terdapat kira-kira 100 pelatih yang menjalani latihan di Pulatibang 1 dengan 27 jurulatih yang berpengalaman.

Sementara itu Pulatibang 2 yang beroperasi di KTU sejak 1995 pula menjalankan kursus penerbangan asas helikopter dan kursus ilmu penerbangan asas bagi kuartermaster udara dan pramugari TUDM.

Menurut Pegawai Pemerintah Pulatibang 2, Leftenan Kolonel Ramli Mohd. Abd. Jabar, peranan yang dimainkan oleh juruterbang terbabit dalam pasukan TUDM tidak kurang pentingnya.

"Usaha KTU adalah untuk melahirkan juruterbang helikopter dan kuartermaster atau pramugari yang berpengetahuan serta memiliki kemahiran tinggi, berdisiplin termasuklah berakhlak terpuji.

"Pelatih juga akan menjalani latihan penerbangan selama 86 jam bagi melayakkan mereka memperoleh sayap penerbangan," katanya.

Menurut Ramli, teknologi dalam bidang penerbangan turut berubah mengikut peredaran masa, namun pelatih di KTU dilatih dengan kemahiran tinggi agar mereka mampu mengemudi apa juga pesawat yang ditugaskan setelah berkhidmat dengan TUDM kelak.

Tambah Ramli, selain melatih pegawai kadet untuk TUDM, KTU juga memberi latihan asas tersebut kepada pasukan ATM lain dan agensi kerajaan.

Russia’s Yak-130 Joins Philippine Combat Trainer Tender

Russia has decided to join a tender on the delivery of six light fighter jets to the Philippines with its new Yakovlev Yak-130 Mitten combat trainer, state-run arms exporter Rosoboronexport said on Wednesday.

“We are taking part in the Philippine tender with the Yak-130 aircraft,” deputy general director of Rosoboronexport, Viktor Komardin, said at the Defense Services Asia-2012 arms show in Malaysia.

The tender for six aircraft to replace the retired U.S.-built Northrop F-5A Tiger fighters was announced last year. The results will be made public in two to three months, the Russian official said. Two rival designs, the Italian Alenia Aermacchi M-346 and South Korea's KAI TA-50, are also competing in the tender

The Philippines is a new market for Russian arms exporters. Manila used to order military equipment mainly from the United States.

“We regard this tender as an opportunity to expand our influence in the region and to demonstrate the capabilities of our military equipment,” Komardin said.

The Yak-130 is a highly maneuverable aircraft with an extended range of about 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles) and a maximum speed of 1,060 km/h (600 m/h) in level flight. It can carry a combat payload of up to 3,000 kilograms (6,600 pounds), consisting of a variety of Russian and Western developed weapons.

The Yak-130 has been chosen as a basic aircraft for Russian Air Force pilot training. First deliveries started in 2009.

BAE Systems Achieves Flight Training Contract Milestone

TAMWORTH, Australia --- BAE Systems has successfully phased in the new Interim Basic Flying Training Contract for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

The first independent IBFT pilot training course began in January 2012 and students are expected to graduate in mid-2012.

BAE Systems was awarded a six-year performance-based contract, with a further six one-year extension options, for the provision of Interim Basic Flying Training services to the ADF in May 2011. The total value of the contract is A$86.6million.

BAE Systems’ program manager at Flight Training Tamworth, Pierre Steyn, said achieving the January start date was a significant milestone.

“We faced a number of technical challenges preparing for the January start date while delivering on the legacy Basic Flying Training and Flight Screening contract,” he said.

“Among the many challenges were the design, testing and production of an enhanced crash protection system for the CT-4B trainer aircraft, obtaining CASA-approved certification for these modifications and developing an improved student flight training program.

“We look forward to delivering our IBFT performance based contract to the set standard, on budget and to schedule, in a safe, modern and dynamic flying training environment.”

The BAE Systems Flight Training activities inject approximately A$10-A$12 million into the local Tamworth/New England community.

Interim Basic Flying Training is an essential stepping stone for the future capability of Australia’s air power.

Italy's Alenia Seeks to Supply DND up to P6.87-B Worth of Aircraft

Italy's Alenia Aermacchi S.p.A. is offering the Department of National Defense four to six units of its €20-million apiece M-346 surface attack plane, the firm’s local partner, Aerotech Industries told GMA News Online.

Aerotech Industries chief operating officer Tess Parian said the P1.14 billion price tag on each M-346 “could still change depending on the requirements or specifications the Philippine Air Force may provide later.”

The four-to-six-unit package would cost about P4.58 billion to P6.87 billion at the current exchange rate of P57.28:€1.

Parian said their likely competitor for the supply contract is the Korea Aerospace Industries—maker of the T-50—which Alenia Aermacchi was up against in supply contract biddings in other countries.

Last year, Alenia Aermacchi delivered 18 new SF260FH basic trainers to the PAF.

The trainer planes are now based at the Fenando Airbase in Lipa, Batangas, home to the PAF Air Education and Traning Command.

Parian said Singapore and the United Arab Emirates chose the M-346 for their respective air forces. Singapore got 12 units of the MB-346 and the United Arab Emirates has a tender for 48 units.

“The twin-turbofan M-346 is the most advanced lead-in fighter trainer flying today,” Alenia Aermacchi said on its website.

“With its fully digital flight controls and avionics, together with carefree handling and high AOA maneuvering, the M-346 is fully representative of new generation fighters,” Alena Aermacchi also said.

“... The M-346 is today the only aircraft designed to meet the training needs of pilots of 4th and 5th generation combat aircraft,” it added.

Alenia Aermacchi is part of the Finmeccanica Group and has production facilities in Italy’s Venegono Superiore province. Its production area is 274,000 sqm, accomodating its 1,800 personnel.

Qantas Defence Services Wins RAAF Support Contract

Qantas Defence Services (QDS) will provide support for the RAAF’s fleet of PC9/A trainer aircraft under a new contract signed with the Commonwealth government on March 29.

The agreement will see QDS conduct repair and overhaul of the fleet’s Pratt & Whitney PT6A engines and Hartzell HC-D4N2A propellers for an initial five-year periodwith an optionto extend for a further three years, at its propulsion systems facility in Villawood in Western Sydney.

"This is a proud moment for our business,” said Scott Harris, Head of QDS.

“We work closely with the Commonwealth on a range of RAAF programs, from MRTT tanker conversion and sustainment to the maintenance of Special Purpose Aircraft.”

“Our propulsion systems unit has a track record of delivering results and we look forward to supporting this important RAAF training and combat aircraft.”

The program will increase QDS’s capabilities on a variety of propulsion systems and strengthen its growing partnership with the RAAF.

Beechcraft T-6C Military Trainer Demo Tours to New Zealand Air Force

SHANGHAI – Hawker Beechcraft Defense Company (HBDC) today announced it has kicked off a two-week demonstration tour in New Zealand with its T-6C Texan II military trainer. The tour began this week at the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s (RNZAF) 75th Anniversary Air Show at RNZAF Base Ohakea, near Palmerston North.

“This is a great opportunity for us to show the world’s most versatile and capable integrated pilot training system to a broad range of interested prospects from New Zealand and the Pacific Region,” said Russ Bartlett, HBDC vice president, Business Development. “Our presence at the 75th Anniversary Air Show is excellent exposure of the robust capability, affordability and sustainability of the T-6C, which has already completed more than 15,700 miles on its journey to New Zealand.”

The T-6C was flown from HBDC’s headquarters in Wichita, Kan., to RNZAF Base Ohakea – a distance of 15,733 miles – in a total elapsed time of nearly 65 flight hours. The trip included stops in Canada, Greenland, Iceland, England, Italy, Greece, Egypt, UAE, India, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Australia.

During the RNZAF 75th Anniversary Air Show, HBDC’s aerobatic demonstration team will perform single-ship, low-altitude aerobatics in a standard equipped T-6C military trainer. The team will also participate in the Warbirds Over Wanaka Air Show on the South Island the following week.

The T-6C aerobatic team debuted in 2011 at the Avalon Air Show in Victoria, Australia. The team’s 2012 tour schedule will include performances at air shows such as Farnborough International Air Show, the Royal International Air Tattoo, the Atlantic Canada International Air Show and the Canada International Air Show. Its tour will also include U.S. demonstrations at Andrews (Md.) and McConnell (Kan.) Air Force Bases; Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (Calif.); Naval Air Station Pensacola (Fla.); as well as air shows in Oshkosh, Wis.; Columbia, Mo.; Fort Worth, Texas; Atlanta, Ga.; and Houston, Texas.

“Performing aerobatics in the T-6C is something that flows naturally from the typical training syllabus for the airplane because it is such a capable and versatile aircraft,” Bartlett said. “It allows us to demonstrate the aircraft’s handling and superior performance in a dramatic fashion.”

In addition to the hard-point wings, the T-6C features an integrated glass cockpit and the advanced Esterline CMC Cockpit 4000 avionics suite that greatly expands advanced training opportunities.

The systems are integrated with a Hands-On Throttle and Stick, providing the student pilot and instructor with a simpler interface to the digital cockpit. The CMC Cockpit 4000 avionics suite is the first in its class to incorporate a fully integrated and FAA-certified dual FMS/GPS navigation suite that meets the navigation performance standards required for current worldwide airspace equipment. The open architecture design of the Cockpit 4000 provides the flexibility to expand capabilities and continuously meet current and future training needs.

Deliveries of the T-6 began in 2000 after the aircraft was initially selected to fill the Joint Primary Aircraft Training System role for the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy. Since then, additional military programs worldwide, including NATO Flying Training Canada, the Hellenic Air Force of Greece, the Israeli Air Force, the Iraqi Air Force, the Royal Moroccan Air Force and our newest customer, the Mexican Air Force, have chosen the T-6 as their primary trainer. To date, the company has delivered more than 740 T-6 aircraft.

Extension of the RSAF’s 150th Squadron in Cazaux-France

On Thursday, March 8, 2012, General Wong Huat Sern, head of the Airforce staff and Singaporean Air Force General Jean-Luc Crochard, with responsibility for external relations of the French Air Force chaired the ceremony of the "first sod" symbolizing the forthcoming construction of the ground training of pilots in the Republic of Singapore Air Force, based at Cazaux Air 120.

Singapore Technologies Aerospace has been mandated to oversee the whole project designed to train pilots on twelve M346 advanced trainer aircraft to equip the future training center.

The building will include two floors and will house flight simulators, equipment and instructional materials, interactive classrooms and briefing rooms. These tools will help hone the skills of air combat Singaporean student pilots.

In partnership with the Air Force, the first phase of construction will begin soon and the site should be released late 2013, consolidating the bonds of friendship and cooperation between France and Singapore.

Installed in Cazaux for over twelve years, the 150th Squadron is training a dozen pilots each year. With the arrival of the M346 is a new era begins!

Update : Israel Beli 30 M-346 Macchino Seharga 1 Miliar Dolar Amerika

TEL AVIV-(IDB) : Kementerian Pertahanan Israel mencapai kata akhir dengan Italia dalam pembelian 30 jet latih M-346 Macchino dari Alenia Aermacchi, senilai 1 miliar dolar Amerika Serikat. Kata akhir ini sekaligus mengakhiri masa penantian panjang dalam memutuskan, antara M-346 atau T-50 Golden Eagle dari Korea Selatan, yang menawarkan harga kompetitif.

Jet tempur ringan latih Italia ini sebelumnya telah memenangi dua pesanan pasti dari Singapura dan Uni Emirat Arab. Sementara T-50 baru satu, yaitu Indonesia, itupun dalam jumlah jauh lebih sedikit ketimbang pesanan dari Israel. Baik M-346 dan T-50 juga berkompetisi dalam pesanan serupa bagi Angkatan Udara Polandia dan ceruk besar untuk Angkatan Udara Amerika Serikat.

Dengan begitu, Israel memiliki 30 Macchino ini, Singapura 12, dan Italia sendiri 15 unit. Dalam konfigurasi standar, harga per unit M-346 Macchino sekitar 20 juta dolar Amerika Serikat. M-346 sangat identik dengan Yak-130 Mitten lansiran biro rancang Yakovlev dan Sokol, Rusia, dengan perbedaan pokok pada mesin penggerak.

M-346 Macchino didorong dua Honeywell F124-GA-200 bypass jet sementara Yak-130 Mitten didorong sepasang Klimov RD35 buatan Rusia. Mesin M-346 diakui lebih kuat ketimbang Klimov RD35 buatan Rusia itu.

Strategi besar bagi Korea Selatan adalah: jika memenangi Israel maka pintu bagi pasar internasional akan terbuka lebar, mengingat mereka adalah pemain baru dalam dunia jet tempur di kancah dunia. T-50 Golden Eagle bermesin satu dan menurut pilot uji, "cita rasa" dan performansinya adalah F-16 Fighting Eagle dalam versi mini.

Sementara M-346 atau Yak-130 dinilai gabungan dari F-16, F-15 Eagle, dan Eurofighter.

Bagi Israel, M-346 akan menggantikan A-4N/TA-4N Skyhawk (berkemampuan membopong misil udara ke darat nuklir) buatan dasawarsa '80-an. Israel menerima pertama kali seri A-4 Skyhawk buatan McDonnel Douglas pada 1968 akibat kelebihan produksi Amerika Serikat; Indonesia juga menerima pada dasawarsa '70-an.

Bisnis arsenal udara di antara Israel dan Italia ini juga berlaku secara resiprokal alias offset deal. Italia akan membeli senilai sama peralatan perang dari Israel, yang dikatakan pejabat di Kementerian Pertahanan Israel, Udi Shani, sebagai suatu yang memungkinkan negaranya memperoleh keuntungan jauh lebih besar dalam kenyataannya.

Italia telah membeli produk-produk persenjataan Israel, meliputi senjata berpemandu, perlengkapan intelijen, pengamatan, dan pemantauan (ISR), sistem perang elektronika, dan sistem perlindungan diri bagi helikopter dan pesawat transportasi militer.

Perusahaan Israel juga bekerja sama dengan firma Italia dalam program peningkatan peralatan militer internasional. Yang sedang didiskusikan kini adalah transfer dua pesawat peringatan dini yang dikembangkan Elta Systems. Italia menjadi kandidat utama dalam pengadaan sistem ISR yang bermula dari pesanan Turki; yang ditolak Israel.

Paket ini terkait dengan prioritas yang diajukan Angkatan Udara Italia mengikuti kampanye pertempuran di Libia, tahun lalu. Hal ini mempercepat pembelian, proses, dan diseminasi intelijen menuju data terhadap sasaran yang dituju.

Dari sisi Korea Selatan --sebelum pilihan jatuh kepada Italia-- berharap Israel memberi pesanan senilai 1,6 miliar dolar Amerika Serikat dalam proyek T-50-nya, termasuk sistem penghalau roket Iron Dome mereka. Timbal baliknya, Korea Selatan memerlukan serangkaian sistem pertahanan dari Israel, termasuk misil Spike NLOS, radar kendali tembakan utama bagi jet-jet tempurnya, dan radar besar anti peluru kendali, Green Pine.
